On behalf of the department head and undergraduate and graduate officers, Janice administers the department’s educational programs and works with faculty, instructors, teaching assistants, students, and staff to manage and oversee the graduate and undergraduate programs. Her responsibilities include managing educational activities for the undergraduate and graduate degree programs; maintaining student records, statistics, and student funding assignments; advising faculty and students on departmental and MIT policies and programs; overseeing degree requirements; managing the graduate admissions process; and preparing grant applications and reports.
Janice has degrees from Wellesley (Biology, Anthropology), MIT, and Harvard (doctorate in Cancer Biology). Prior to her current position she taught in the MIT Biology project and teaching labs, and did curriculum development for inquiry-based teaching giving talks at national conferences.
Janice has received the School of Science Dean’s Educational and Student Advising Award, Infinite Mile Award, as well as a number of Spot Awards.
