Life as a Postdoc

Among the most accomplished members of the MIT Biology community are the department’s 100+ postdoctoral scholars. Postdocs have completed the highest level of academic achievement in the field—the PhD. Under the direction of faculty, they work on advanced research in a diverse range of topics and subspecialties.

In the highly collaborative climate of the department, postdocs offer key insights and firsthand knowledge of late-breaking advances in their areas. Coming to MIT from across the globe, they also enhance the dynamic multiculturalism of the department and the Institute as a whole.

Although a large department, MIT Biology is a close-knit group, and postdocs are integral to the culture. They participate in social events and Institute traditions along with students and faculty and enjoy all that Cambridge/Boston has to offer. Those with partners access the many resources designed for students with families, including group activities and support systems.
