  • Audit your lab responsibilities list periodically to ensure tasks are balanced.
  • Be aware that some responsibilities may pose outsized demands that you may not fully appreciate.

Potential pitfalls for mentors

  • Playing favorites, or practicing non-uniform enforcement of lab expectations/policies
  • Scheduling lab outings or constructing lab meetings that are not inclusive of certain group members.
  • Not addressing bad behavior when there are clear, visible consequences.
  • Delegating secretarial or organizational to women.
